Apple releases iOS 12.5.6, fixing a security issue for older devices

Apple released a new software update today, but this one is a bit special because it’s for older models that the company no longer supports — at least not with the latest iOS versions.

We’re talking about iOS 12.5.6, which is already out for those iPhones and iPads stuck on the iOS 12 branch, including iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plusoriginal iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad Mini 3and even the 6th generation iPod touch.

The new update’s build number is 16H71, and it addresses a security vulnerability in WebKit that leads to arbitrary code execution, and Apple says it’s “aware of reports that this issue may have been actively exploited.”

Needless to say, this is definitely an update that is recommended to be downloaded and installed as soon as possible if you happen to still have one of the older devices listed above. It’s a 275MB download and you should have already received a notification to get it. If not, you can always go to Settings > General > Software Update to get it.
